Activity Report
January 2003

  • THE KEAN ESTATE:

: We need help in convincing the Kean family not to sell off this 200+ acres of forested area on top of the second Watchung Mountain range in West Orange. We have a plan but we need pressure put on the governor to apply his office's help in stopping the 250-townhouse development from going forward The next town planning meeting is Feb 5. We don't know if it is on their agenda.

  • THE BECKER FARM TRACT:

We have gotten some new members in the group to tackle Roseland Township's plan to build additional ballfields in the park and ultimately create unwanted noise in the surrounding neighborhood.

  • HATFIELD SWAMP:

West Essex Park should include this particularly special marshland. Pressure on the NJDEP to designate this a state park is desirable and the County has some plans to preserve some of it while The Army Corps of Engineers have bought some parts to help. We need help to stop the proposed extension of the Eisenhower parkway through a sensitive area of the swamp. Mack-Cali is the developer to stop in this case.
