Activity Report
January 2003

  • MATRIX:

Mike Buriani has e-mailed Residents for Smart Growth to get an update on the Matrix construction. Our letter to Governor McGreevy was received and forwarded to DEP Commissioner Brad Campbell. Our plan is to contact Campbell soon. We're waiting for the results of the Letter of Interpretation re-inspection. The endangered species questions have been referred to the appropriate groups at the DEP.

  • ELM COURT:

Mary Penney has been told by Green Acres' Mike Heenahan that Green Acres is treating Princeton's use of the Elm Court land as a diversion.

  • PENNS NECK AREA EIS:

The Project Team is staunchly refusing to do a wildlife survey on the grounds that it is not required, they have no time, and they have no money. In conjunction with several other members of the Millstone Bypass Alert Coalition, we will look into what it would cost to hire someone to do a wildlife survey.
The past two Roundtable meetings have dealt with archaeological and historic resources (one was the second Section 106 Consulting Parties' meeting). There are six planned Roundtable meetings before the DEIS is published. There will be a second In-Progress Review on 5 March from 6-9 pm at the NJ Hospital Association building.

  • TRENTON-MERCER AIRPORT EXPANSION:

We are reviewing the final EA and finding inconsistencies between the responses and the text of the EA. We will send a letter to the FAA.

  • LAWRENCE-HOPEWELL BIKE TRAIL/POLE FARM:

A copy of the Pole Farm Vision Statement has been sent to Hank Segal, who is on the Trail committee. The Friends of Carson Road Woods are upset that they were not consulted, because the planned trail would be paved through the woods even though the land was purchased as strictly passive recreation with no pavement. We are still waiting for a response to our letter to Frank Ragazzo of the Parks Commission. If we don't hear back soon, we will send the letter to Mercer County Executive Bobby Prunetti, who is Frank Ragazzo's superior. We will also keep Carol Beske of the Parks Commission in the loop.
