Activity Report February 2004
- ACTIVIST MEETING:
Several environmental activists from Princeton, Lawrenceville, and Hamilton met at Ed Pfeiffer's house to share information. We hope to make this an annual event.
- SHOPRITE:
Levin, the owners of the 30 acre woods, held a public information session on February 19. 200 people attended and Levin was unprepared for the neighborhood's reaction. Residents are strongly opposed to the proposed development, especially the Klockner Road traffic light across from the elementary school. Levin's plans were to have been proposed to the Planning Board on February 26, but Levin has postponed its hearing to March 25. The proposed variances, which the Planning Board could have denied, have also been withdrawn, giving the Township less leverage in denying the proposal. Meanwhile, Rocky Swingle has an alternate proposal involving only 10 acres of the site. We are helping him with this and trying to find an architect or planner to draw the design. We hope to meet with Levin, Kramont (the owners of the adjacent, dead mall), and Foodarama (the owners of ShopRite).
- KLOCKNER ROAD WOODS:
Hamilton Township has begun acquisition proceedings for the woods by asking the owner to sell and proposing condemntaion of the property if the owner is unwilling to sell.
- PENNS NECK AREA EIS:
Meetings for Consulting Parties (including the Sierra Club) continue, in order to assess potential impacts to cultural, historic, and archaeological sites.
