- PENNS NECK AREA EIS:
Laura received e-mail from Pam Newitt, who had helped document the NJ Threatened long-eared owl on the Sarnoff site last year. Pam was contacted by an environmental consultant hired by the DOT to search for the owl; the consultant wanted location information. Pam reported to us that she has not seen the owl yet this year, and that she and a friend witnessed a man whacking the bases of the pine trees in the owl's habitat, she thought to scare the owl away. She did not report the indicent to the DEP. Laura recommended that she do so, and that she give the documentation she submitted to the DEP to the consultant who now is searching for the owl. Laura also requested a copy of whatever documentation Pam can give on the tree-whacking incident. Laura will report it to the EIS Project Team.
