Job Description: Grassroots Communications Chair

The new Grassroots Communications Chair (GCC) position has been created to strengthen the Club's ability to influence public opinion at both the national and local levels. The GCC will serve as a 'bridge' between her/his chapter and the national Sierra Club's strategic conservation messaging work. S/he will work with the Club's national and regional media teams to localize national conservation messages and to incorporate local concerns into national messages. The GCC will be responsible for working with local issue activists on framing and talking about conservation issues.

  • Be a 'bridge' between his/her chapter and the national Sierra Club related to strategic messaging
  • Help his/her chapter increase the effectiveness of its major communication tools (newsletter, website, press releases, letters to the editor/Opinion Editorials, etc.) with our members and with the general public
  • Help his/her chapter craft effective messages for its campaigns and other conservation work
  • Ensure effective and consistent messaging among chapter and group activists
  • Provide feedback to the national Sierra Club on the effectiveness of strategic messaging in her/her geographic area
