Ocean County Sierra Club Volunteer Honored At White House

Greg Auriemma Recognized as a Champion of Change Today the White House will honor A. Gregory Auriemma of Brick, NJ, along with eleven other community leaders who are "Champions of Change," working to prepare their communities for the consequences of climate disruption.

"I am honored to be recognized as a 'Champion of Change,' and this accolade belongs to all the dedicated NJ Sierra Club activists and supporters, particularly those who belong to the local Ocean County chapter," said Auriemma. "My home and the homes of many of my friends and neighbors in Ocean County were devastated by Superstorm Sandy, and the Sierra Club is working everyday to fight climate disruption and make our nation more resilient with climate solutions like clean energy." Auriemma is the Chair and a founding member of the NJ Ocean Group of the Sierra Club, which has more than 1,500 members and supporters. A personal injury lawyer by day, Gregory's first passion is his volunteer work with the Sierra Club -- and he has been very active in post-Sandy recovery efforts.

"Greg Auriemma is one of those unique individuals who volunteers and works tirelessly for the Sierra Club. He not only helped start the Ocean County Group but has made it one of the most dynamic groups in the New Jersey Chapter. He helped organize volunteers for the Climate Rally in Washington even though his own home is devastated. He has helped his neighbors clean up and rebuild in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. He has also been a leader promoting clean energy and reducing greenhouse gases and the impacts of climate disruption. We are honored he is being recognized by the White House. Now the nation knows what we have always known- Greg Auriemma is a champion of change," *said Jeff Tittel, Director, NJ Sierra Club*. Following Hurricane sandy, the Ocean Group and New Jersey Chapter have been leading efforts to rebuild our state better and smarter from participating in clean up and recovery efforts, to pushing for regulatory reforms in Trenton to prepare our state for the future impacts of climate change. The Ocean Group under Greg's leadership has played a critical role in these efforts.

"At White House will be Heather Ziegel the Deputy Assistant to the President of Energy and Climate Change and a former NJ Chapter volunteer and intern. Now Greg is being honored and one of the people presenting him with this honor will be another former NJ Chapter volunteer," *said Jeff Tittel*.
