All over America, cities, counties and states are launching
an exciting grassroots movement to help solve one of our country’s
most pressing problems: global warming. Frustrated by stalling
on the federal level, local leaders are moving forward with
innovative energy solutions that cut our dependence on oil,
county commissioners and governors are leading the way toward
a safer and more secure future.
The purpose of these webpages is to provide a resource for citizens
and local officials who are ready to act on the need to reduce
energy waste and heat-trapping global warming pollution by taking
real action in their communities.
The strategies that we are pursuing fall
under three categories: cleaner vehicles, energy efficiency and
renewable energy. Every one of these local solutions is already
saving taxpayer dollars and improving public health by reducing
energy waste and pollution. By taking innovative actions, forward-looking
cities are re-energizing our nation, proving that we can solve
global warming one city at a time.
All New Jersey municipalities, businesses, schools, and individual ratepayers can reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and save money by utilizing the offerings of the New Jersey Clean
Energy Program. Incentives are indicated here in the
Clean Energy Financing for Schools and Local Government bulletin.

First Cool Cities meeting
More than 25 motivated people attended the first Cool Cities meeting on April 8.
Following are links to helpful materials for those interested in joining us.
- The
Cool Cities Activist Toolkit (April 2006, in .pdf) which details strategy
for the campaign. The kit definitely ensures success if carefully followed.
It lays out the careful foundation of organization and encourages establishment
of grassroots coalitions before the mayors are approached. Please take time
to read this.
- Those on the list of
Municipal Environmental Chairpersons
should be sympathetic to our goals.
- The pamphlet
Cool Cities, Solving Global Warming One City at a Time (in .pdf)which contains the Sierra Club
guide to local warming solutions.
